STUDENTS WILL LOOK AT DIFFERENT TYPES OF MEDIA, THEIR PORTRAYAL OF ENERGY USE AND MISUSE, AND THE ROLE MEDIA PLAY IN INFLUENCING PUBLIC OPINION.

COMPLETE ONE OF THE FOLLOWING OPTIONS. EACH OPTION IS WORTH THE SAME NUMBER OF POINTS. YOU WILL ONLY BE ABLE TO SUBMIT WORK AND GET POINTS FOR ONE OPTION.

OPTION 1: Share your experience with the Classroom Energy Diet Challenge through a local media source
Students will learn about energy issues in various media sources and will contact a local media outlet to see if it is interested in covering part of their Classroom Energy Diet Challenge experience.

OPTION 2: School newsletter
Students will create a class or school newsletter about the Classroom Energy Diet Challenge.


LEARNING OUTCOMES
By the end of this activity, students:

  • will be able to recognize different forms of media
  • will understand how the media can present energy-related topics and how these representations affect public opinion
