A. No, your classrooms are only attached to your account on the contest website, please log in with the email and password emailed to you on January 30.Q. I have more than one registered classroom but can only ever see one.
A. You need to select which classroom you want to activate by opening the pop-up box in the navigation bar with the name of your active classroom. Only one classroom can be active at one time.Q. I can’t see the Submit Proof button to log our completed challenge.
A. You need to be logged into your teacher account in order to see this button. Only teachers are able to log a completed challenge for their classroom.Q. I’m trying to log a completed challenge for my classroom but can’t find the challenge in the drop down list.
A. If you have already completed the form for this specific challenge then you will not be allowed to submit again. A challenge can only be completed once, and thus the challenge can only be logged once through your teacher account.Q. I’m trying to upload a document or image to submit proof for a challenge, but am having difficulties. What’s the problem?
A. Check that your file is sized appropriately and is amongst the accepted file types. You can upload up to three pdfs per challenge, up to 20 MB each. Photos should be no larger than 4GB, and only the following file types are accepted: .jpg, .png., .jpeg and .gif. If you need to resize an image, we recommend trying pixlr.com - a free, web-based photo-editing app.Q. I’m trying to upload some .BMP images as proof of a completed challenge but it won’t work.
A. Only the following file types are accepted: jpg, .png, .gif, .jpegQ. I’ve just submitted proof for a challenge but don’t see it on the website. I also don’t see the points added to my total classroom points.
A. All proof is reviewed and approved by Canadian Geographic Education. This process may take up to 24 hours. Once the proof is approved, it is viewable on the CEDC website and points are awarded accordingly.Q. I have already submitted proof for one point level of a challenge. Can I complete the challenge again to receive more points?
A. No, you may only submit proof and receive points for one point level.Q. I forgot my password. How can I reset it?
A. Please click on the "Forgot your password" link on the login pop-up. When prompted, enter the email address you used to register for the contest. You will receive an email with a link to change your password. Once your password has been changed, you will be automatically logged into your account.
Mobile Challenge AppWho can access this app and how much does it cost?
The Classroom Energy Diet Challenge (CEDC) app is free and can be downloaded by anyone through iTunes (Apple) or Google Play (Android). However, only teacher participants who have successfully registered their classrooms in the 2017 CEDC and have been provided with a login and password will be able to use it.Can parents or students use this app?
This app is designed to assist teachers with the submission process for challenges. Parents or students who wish to view their work, vote for a video or pledge in the Sign Up or Sign Out challenge must go to energydiet.canadiangeographic.ca to do so.Do I have to set up a new account, ID or password?
No. The app and the CEDC website are designed to communicate with one another. The same login information used on a computer will work in the app.What if I have more than one class registered? Do I have to login each time?
No. Once you have logged into your account on the app, you will see a drop down menu showing all of your registered classrooms. Click on the classroom you wish to submit proof for and follow the steps outlined in the app.I’m having difficulties uploading proof using the app. What could be wrong?
- Check to make sure you are uploading it in a .gif, .jpeg, .png or PDF format. All other formats cannot be uploaded.
- If you have an Apple/iOS device, you cannot upload a PDF from your phone or tablet. Your PDF document will have to be uploaded from a computer, or you can take a picture of the PDF and upload that.
- Check your internet connection. If you have a weak connection it may be difficult to submit proof. Either try again when the signal is stronger, or login on a computer.
- Double check and ensure you have completed all the required information fields to submit the proof. To see what is required for each challenge, view the challenge PDF.
This app is available in English and French. When you download the app, it will be downloaded in the language your mobile device is set to. If you want to view the app content in another language, go to language preferences on your device and change its setting.Do I have to use the app to submit proof?
No, you can use either the app or the website to submit proof. Please note that proof for each challenge can only be submitted once. You cannot upload proof for the same challenge from your computer and your phone.Can I save progress in a challenge and complete it later?
Yes. Challenges that require you to fill out an online form have a save option to make it easy to track your work. By clicking ‘save’, your data will be recorded and saved. It can be accessed again later either through the app on the same mobile device or by logging into your account from a computer. Only by clicking ‘submit’ will your final proof be submitted.Can I register for the CEDC using the App?
Yes. You can register for the CEDC on a computer by going to energydiet.ca or through the app.
Video PortionsQ. I can’t upload my video. What do I do?
A. There are a number of things that could cause an issue with a video upload. First, make sure that your source video is in the correct format and is not too large. Files must be uploaded as .mov, .avi, .m4v, or .mp4, and can not be larger than 70 MB. Second, check to make sure that your local network’s firewall is not blocking your access to the website or a component of the website. Your IT department will be able to assist you with this. Third, you may be experiencing an issue with the browser you are using. Supported browsers are Chrome 27+, Firefox 21+, Safari 5.1+, and Internet Explorer 8+, although individual instances of browsers may have installed plugins that can cause localized issues with the website. If you are using a supported browser and still are having issues, please try with a different supported browser before requesting support assistance.
If you are still having difficulties, please contact the Classroom Energy Diet Challenge administrator and include the url of the page you are having difficulty with, a description of the issue, a copy of the file you are trying to upload and, if possible, a screen shot of the page with any error messages that are displayed.Q. I uploaded my video but I can’t see it online. What happened?
A. All videos will be visible online as of April 3, 2017.Q. I uploaded my video and now I want to change it. Can I do this?
A. Once you have submitted your video, you are not able to revise it. Please make sure that you upload the final version of your video. If this poses a problem, please contact your Classroom Energy Diet Challenge administrator.Q. I would like to vote for a video. How do I do this?
A. Voting can only be completed once you’ve viewed a video from start to finish. At that time a vote button will appear. Please click on the vote button to register a vote. Viewers can cast one vote per device (e.g., phone, computer, tablet, etc.) per video per day.
