A new way to reuse those plastic bags

Since the store is so close to the school, and a lot of staff, students and parents frequent it, they thought it would be a fun idea to come up with a way to reuse all the bags they collected. They decided to turn those plastic bags into a sturdy and durable basket to be used in the classroom.

Here are the steps they followed and how you can create one of your own!

  • Step 1: Ask around to parents, students and staff and begin collecting plastic bags.

  • Step 2: Roll each plastic bag vertically, snip off the handles and cut them into rings about an inch wide.

  • Step 3: Unroll the rings and loop them within each other (like how you would tie elastic bands together).

  • Step 4: Roll this long strip into a ball to form a ball of “plarn” (plastic yarn).

  • Step 5: Find someone who loves to crochet and use the plarn to crochet into a bag or basket.
