The Classroom Energy Diet Challenge

Cresthaven Public School

Cahatol 3/4

After discussing common modes of transportation (bus, car, electric car, plane) and connecting this to our discussion on electric vehicles, we used Google Maps and to calculate and compare the travel time, costs, CO2 emissions, and mileage for a trip from our school to the Canadian Geographic Headquarters. Students had to choose which mode of transportation they would use when factoring travel time, emissions and cost. Initially, many of the kids favoured the electric car, but the travel time including charging, took three days. Justifying their choice of transportation was an important part of the challenge.
