We began with a "think-pair-share" activity and brainstormed many everyday items that we recycle. Pairs shared these recyclables aloud and our teacher created a web chart on the chalkboard. As a class, we watched a few videos, "What They Become" and "Mr. Cool's Can". We were amazed at the number of new items that could be made with recycled goods. We were fascinated by the different lines and processes recycled goods go through at the regional material recovery facility (MRF). With our partners, we zeroed in on one specific recycled item (aluminum can, newspaper, metal lids, etc) and used the CEDC links to research how it would be recycled. We explained our findings using pictures and words in flow charts.
