Lesson Plan

Students will work with their families to calculate the approximate number of plastic bags they use/save in a year and think of ways to reduce their plastic waste.

Students will calculate the approximate number of plastic bags they are using/saving in their homes and think of ways to reduce their plastic pollution.

There is only one option for this challenge.

Please have students complete the challenge at home and calculate and submit the total number of plastic bags saved in a year by all students. This will provide your class with an opportunity to discuss ways to reduce their use of plastic.

Learning outcomes
By the end of this activity, students will:

  • understand the importance of reducing their plastic waste
  • brainstorm a variety of ways in which they can reduce their plastic use
  • make plans to reduce their plastic waste.
