Lesson Plan

Students will work with their families to calculate the approximate number of water bottles they use in a week or the number of water bottles they save in a week by using a refillable bottle.

There is only one option for this challenge.

Please have students complete the challenge at home and calculate and submit the total number of plastic bottles saved in a week by all students. This will provide your class with an opportunity to discuss ways to reduce their use of single use plastics.

Learning outcomes

Using this activity, students will:

  • understand the importance of reducing their plastic waste;
  • brainstorm a variety of ways in which they can reduce their plastic use;
  • and take action/make plans to reduce their plastic waste.

Students will challenge their parents/guardians to calculate the approximate number of plastic bottles they are using/saving in their homes and think of ways to reduce their plastic pollution.
