As a class, we made a list of all the things in our homes that need energy, from large appliances to electronic devices to small appliances. We then circled the ones we thought were essential (needs) and which ones weren’t (wants). Each student decided to give up one nonessential device/appliance etc. for 24 hours. The response was great. Some even exceeded 24 hours and went without for a whole weekend! Afterward we had a lot of good discussion reflecting on the experience.
