Small is smart
Moving soon? You might consider the floor plan when you’re evaluating potential homes. According to Avi Friedman, an architecture professor at McGill University, shrinking your living space saves energy and expenses. A floor area of 100 square metres can save up to 12 per cent of the energy used to power a 120 square-metre home.
Also consider the shape of your living space. A rectangular floor plan has a shorter perimeter than L-shaped, U-shaped or H-shaped plans. With fewer corners, windows and a smaller exterior area, you can save significant energy costs.
