One Hour No Power

For Earth Day, I challenged the students to go one hour with no power each. With online learning, this was challenging, but I had them post photos of what they were doing during their hour, and it turned out great! They also added to the chart with how long they went and what they did, and several went longer than an hour.

We have talked a lot about what current energy issues mean for them and what the implications of our actions are in 10 years, 20 years, etc. Students then wrote a letter to their future selves.

Students made infographics with tips and tricks to save energy, and we posted them on the school Facebook page for a week. Some students also made a label to go on all of the light switches in the school to remind everyone to turn off the lights.

Students tracked their water use, and tried to conserve water. It made them more aware of their water usage and were shocked at how much water each activity used.
