A Green-Powered Canada

Description

Students did research projects of renewable and non-renewable energy sources in Canada. I tried but was unable to upload the student's slideshows (through Google or Powerpoint), so I have included the activity/project description instead. Hope that is ok.

Students were shown videos about possible transportation methods in the future (air powered tubes for personal travel, solar energy trains etc.), chose which one they were most interested in and then drew a representation of it.

Description

Students researched community initiatives but it was when we investigated the UN's Global Goals that several students got inspired. One student in particular and recruited others from the class to create a website. which allowed other students and members of the community to get involved. Do You Really Need It?

A pair of students designed a slide show for the other students so they could distinguish between a "need" and a "want". Then students completed the form and decided upon a want they could limit or do without.

How Big Are Your Carbon Feet?

Students used the on-line calculators to find out their "carbon foot-print" and then researched ways to reduce it. Then they made posters to let other students in the school how they could reduce their carbon footprint.

One Hour No Power

Made a decision to have all gym class outside. Organized a "One Hour No Power" event for the school Completed Language Arts Activity outdoors for an hour (observing Upper Field forest for ideas for stories) Completed an hour long Scavenger Hunt in French class Worked on plays for "3 Monks, No Water" in forest Presented plays in the forest Tested / experimented paper aircrafts outside (for unit on Flight)

Description

Students learned about the "circular economy" through the videos and activities at National Geographics and then researched companies (Timberland and Nike) invested in "circular economy" practices. They then combined products from these companies along with a "circular economy" infographic to make an ad for the company.

Groups of students were "responsible" for presenting a challenge to the class (video / info + an activity) with my assistance . After they were asked to create a comic about the challenge they worked on.

Students researched where the items in their lunch came from in the world and then researched what foods are grown in Southern Ontario.
