One Hour No Power

Completed

Description

Fortunately, at the Elementary schoool I work at we have something called "power hour". Everyday at lunch we shut all the lights off in the classrooms and don't use our smartboards. However, since lunch is an easy time to turn off the power, I decided to challenge ourselves a bit so I came up with easy and fun activities we could do without the power! I have lots of windows in my class so this was easy!!! We read, wrote stories, had some classroom meetings, did some yoga and even played board games and completed a 500 piece puzzle!!!

Video Challenge

Completed

Description

With my help for spelling and proper sentence structure, students wrote the script for their public service anouncement. We started by brainstorming and writing a list of things everyone can do to reduce their energy consumption. They chose their favorites and then split them up among each other. Once we finished that, one of my students wrote the opening sentences. And then we started practicing our lines!!! One of my students was in charge of filming the whole thing on one of our classroom iPads and we edited on iMovie together so it was easy (because iMovie basically does all the work for you).
