As a group, we discussed different energy sources used in Canada and rated them as renewable or non-renewable. Individually, students completed the Green-Powered Canada worksheets.

As a group, we brainstormed smart mobility options and discussed what we though were the best ways of cleaner energy transportation. Individually, students created posters (both physical and digital) on their chosen mobility option!

Community Connections

We decided to organize an Earth Day Litter Clean-Up! One student designed a poster, with input from others and the rest of the class shared the poster on social media and printed posters to hang in their neighbourhoods. We also created a Google Form so we could track how many people were taking part!

We talked together in class about the assignment, and then each student completed the worksheet, gave up an item, and completed a reflection on they day they gave up their item.

Get Growing

In class, we discussed what we might grow. Individually, students planted their own home gardens and completed the Get Growing worksheet. We had a great mix of wildflowers, vegetables, native plants, and house plants. Some of the students intend to plant pollinator patches with what they grow!

Together, over one of our virtual meetings, the group decided on a theme for our video. All students submitted ideas to be included, and an older student write the script, and directed the other students in her home. Some other students send video or voiceover to be included. Students edited clips and voiceover together using VivaVideo.

As a group, we decided which challenge to complete of the two and talked about carbon footprint and the surprising distance some of our food travels. Individually, students mapped the locations of the food in one of their meals.
