How Big Are Your Carbon Feet?

Completed

Description

We discussed what carbon footprints are (using some videos), reviewed how energy is used in our daily lives, and completed a Carbon Footprint online calculator (Global Footprint Network - carbon calculator). We reflected on our own use of fossil fuels and how to reduce our own footprint by using the detailed breakdown in the online calculator results page. We consolidated our learning by completing the footprint diagram, inserting what we can do (both personally and societally) to reduce our carbon footprint.

The Phantom of the Classroom

Completed

Description

We learned about phantom power using your videos, used the Hydro Quebec phantom power calculator, then identified phantom power in our classroom. We ensured we turned off as many phantom power devices when we observed Earth Hour at school. We also created maps of our homes and identified where phantom power sources live. We did this before International Earth Hour to ensure we shut down as many devices as possible.
