We are partnering with Staples and Terracycle to collect markers, pens, etc. and prevent them from being sent to a landfill. Instead they will be recycled. Each classroom has a box to collect in. An email was sent to all teachers to explain the program.

We did it as a class with not using Chromebooks or the Epson board for the entire day. Two students also did it on their own a second day and created slides to go with it.

How Big Are Your Carbon Feet?

We watched videos from the lesson and others that were found on YouTube to explore what carbon footprint meant. Then students used a carbon footprint calculator to figure out their carbon footprint. Finally, students write down ideas on the foot template for how they could reduce their carbon footprint.

We looked at the websites from the challenge and watched some of the short videos on the websites in order to learn about food waste and ways to reduce it. We brainstormed a list for both of the categories on the worksheet and students wrote down 4 of them for each. We had a few minutes left so a couple of students acted out the charades.

The Phantom of the Classroom

Two students drew a map of the classroom and showed things that use power. They shared with the class things that we might not think of and areas where "phantom power" is present.

Two students did this challenge as their project. They calculated their water use for one day and then the second day and figured out the water saved. Both calculated that they saved about 7L so a total of 14L.
