Do You Really Need It?

Completed

Description

For this challenge, we started with our list of needs versus wants, which prompted lots of debate! Then, out of our list of "wants," everyone chose one item that they use often or too much and pledged to not use that item for the entire weekend (taking it a little further than the 24 hour period!).

One Hour No Power

Completed

Description

The MS Campus Clean-Up Crew chose to run a school-wide event on Friday, March 26, 2021 to celebrate Global Earth Hour (since we would all be at home during the actual Earth Hour). For one hour in the afternoon, they encouraged all classes, offices, and other areas in the school to go without power (including lights, laptops, etc.). The MSCCC volunteers (10 in total - the whole group!) surveyed the campus during this time, inviting people to participate, encouraging them to do more, and tracking which areas went without power and for how long (using an old-fashioned paper and pencil!). They also interviewed students and employees for a school newspaper article and created a whole-school assembly presentation to share the results and successes of their event during Earth Week.
