Students watched videos and completed an assignment on the process of photosynthesis. As a whole class, we researched and discussed carbon offsetting, Students planted marigold seeds in recycled containers. The flowers will be planted at the front of the school when the risk of frost is over. They also planted bean seeds in mason jars so they could see them germinate.Photographs are attached.
How Big Are Your Carbon Feet?
Students researched the meaning of "carbon footprint" and calculated their own footprint using an online calculator. They followed up writing ways to reduce their carbon footprints on a human footprint and displaying them on a line in the classroom. Samples are attached.
Limited Edition: Game Time!
Students viewed the online video about food waste in Canada and participated in a class discussion about the energy that is needed to produce, transport and store food and that when food is wasted, that energy is wasted too. Then, they brainstormed ways to reduce food wasted and completed the food waste worksheet. Samples of completed worksheets are attached.
