We looked at a few waste reduction websites that were provided. We also watched a couple of food reduction videos. Students were given a "how to reduce lunch waste" sheet to take home. Based on everything we learned about today, students played a pictionary game. They had to draw some type of way to "reduce food waste" while their classmates had to guess what they were drawing.

We watched a video on what a carbon footprint was. Students used a website to calculate their carbon footprint. We put our carbon footprints on the floor when we walk into our classroom as a reminder to us.

One Hour No Power

Each day, students had to take ownership on how we could reduce power in our classroom. They asked almost every day if there were certain periods of the day we could turn off all of the lights to reduce power. We will continue with this goal throughout the year!

Story Time

The students just started working on their final challenge today! I make this challenge their final project so it will take a few weeks to complete (we go on Easter break this week). Students will be creating a children's story book. Each student completed their planning page today. They have to create a story where their main character is showing a "non-sustainable" practice and then their character needs to make it "sustainable". Some ideas they have come up with are turning off the lights, composting, reducing pollution when using transportation. Here are our planning sheets as we won't have our completed stories done before April 22 with it being the break. They have begun writing their stories though!
