Description

Students researched the power sources in Canada in small groups and filled in the sheets. I found it easier to make the sheet into a doc, so the students in a group could work on it at the same time (Hope that's alright). We then shared our findings with the rest of the class.

We had a discussion about this in our small community. The students then broke into groups and made posters.

Description

Our class will take care of the paper/cardboard recycling for the school. They will check the recycle room bins, and take them out to the paper/cardboard dumpster whenever the bins get full. The company comes and dumps the dumpster every two weeks. They really want to do this until the end of the school year.

We had a discussion about wants and needs, and then they completed the worksheet. We will go without lights all of tomorrow. It will be a good start to the One Hour No Power Challenge as well.

Description

We planted a bean seed on Monday, January 31st. We saw that it poked through the ground on Feb. 22nd. We were amazed at how tall it was by Feb. 25th.

We looked at the GoGreen Carbon Footprint activity. The students colored in their footprints, and then we learned about how to reduce our footprint. The students picked two things they could do to make their footprint smaller and wrote them on their footprint sheets.

We combined this with the 'Do You Really Need it?' Challenge for a kickoff to this challenge for a whole day no power day! We had two whole days on March 7th and 8th.

On Monday, we talked about ways we could save water. I showed the class my water tracking sheet from my weekend of water use/saving. The class decided we would take the sheets home, and complete them for two days from now until Thursday. The deadline to return them would be Thursday morning.

We made a menu with soups, main dishes, and desserts using locally sourced food. We made it on a google slideshow. I've attached it in pdf form.

Description

We looked at some recycled art projects on the internet, and then the students each decided what they would bring and make. We displayed our recycled art in the library. It was a big hit!
