A Green-Powered Canada
Completed
Description
The kids' worksheets are sloppy, but they really do know their stuff on this way. They've been working on a video for several days now - I'll submit that to Sara if they complete it. The director Jet keeps saying "maybe" it'll be done tomorrow ... he's notoriously putting things off, but also is a creative talent, so we'll see what he comes up with.

Buckle Up
Completed
Description
This was fun. We live in Toronto, so the kids are keen to learn about different modes of transport. Electric scooters are exciting for them. Hoverboards feel a little dangerous. It is cool to look around the city and see these modes of transport in action.

Community Connections
Completed
Description
This was fun, researching different environmentally friendly organisations in Toronto, Ontario, and Canada. We realized we're connected to quite a few already. Doing Earth Hour was a fun way to connect all the families in the class, without being able to get together physically.

Do You Really Need It?
Completed
Description
Jet worked with the boys, and Naomi with the girls, to chat about the things they use most. They compiled the average list, and chatted about it. Some seriously wanted to give up the computers at school ... but we need them for most of our work! So I asked them to focus on giving up the gaming time at home. Will have to trust them on this one!

Game Time!
Completed
Description
Jean Marck had a blast creating this game. He loves charades, and had the great idea to act out food saving actions. Kids were having a hoot. He custom-made the logo too! His comics are a little hard to decipher, but a lot of thought went into it.

The kids LOVE growing. The girls water the plants every day, and take great pics. They're very responsible, even bringing in their own seeds and pots. Now, to see if we can keep these plants alive!

Leffe is our coding master. We learned from him about how bitcoin mining uses 95 terawatts of energy a year, globally! He's learning to code (he already has a game on google play) - he's going to try to figure out how to write energy-saving code for bitcoin mining. Attached is the presentation he delivered to us, complete with his story.

Take-Home
Completed
Description
The kids learned a lot from this. Seeing how much they throw out ... and figuring out how to throw out less! Some didn't recycle AT ALL ... others, almost everything. Quite a mix, which was informative for the class.

The Phantom of the Classroom
Completed
Description
We got an energy meter off Amazon for this, and the kids were so pumped. We measured everything. Since we have a powerbar at each outlet, we can totally go down to 0 in phantom power. But in use, it's up around 200 watts. We learned about energy some too. One of the maps shows phantom, one map full power.

Video Challenge
Completed
Description
We had SO MUCH FUN with this one. We made like 10 different movies, and narrowed it down to our top 3. We combined actors, producers, and editors from the top 3, into this one final movie. I think it turned out great, and gets the point across. I'm so proud of the kids! It was definitely student driven (entirely their work!) ... but we're going to go for "call to action". Also ... best tip ... it is a really simple tip, but perhaps the best one. Darn it! Too bad we can't enter all 3.
Water Works
Completed
Description
Naomi and Matthew did a survey of half a dozen students to determine our water saving. About 450L from one day to the next! Matthew said, "after doing this project, I'm much more careful about saving water - like taking shorter showers, and if it's yellow let it mellow" - funny kid!
What’s For Lunch?
Completed
What’s Old is New Again
Completed
Description
Students created beautiful (and useful) art out of objects that would have been thrown in the trash. Paper towel roll holders, old scrap paper, plastic bottles, and more. They had a lot of fun, and expressed tremendous creativity and perseverance with this project!
