A Green-Powered Canada

Students researched green power/renewable energy projects in Canada. They filled out the required research sheet. Many also included a photo of the project they researched.

Buckle Up

Students watched the "Cities Rise to the Challenge" video about smart mobility being incorporated into urban planning. Students also looked at future green modes of transportation from the Mother Earth News website. We wrote down the smart mobility tips, methods, vehicles, and city features that we saw. Using our words we created a number of word clouds using the wordart.com website.

Students participated in a school-wide clean up on Earth Day. Students picked up garbage on school property and the nearby public park. We disposed of the garbage in the dumpsters.

How Big Are Your Carbon Feet?

We watched a video and had a discussion about carbon footprints. Students completed a carbon footprint quiz/calculator online to get their stats for their personal carbon footprint. Students created posters with a large foot in the middle. The toes represent how many Earth's are needed, the inside of the foot has drawings of carbon creating activities, the outside of the foot has images of carbon reducing activities.

The class watched an episode of Stop the Smoggies to get ideas of how to write an energy-related story. We also brainstormed energy-related issues to choose from. Students used a comic template to create their stories.
