Description
We chose to address the following need in schools: Activating the brains of students with behavioural and learning disabilities. We decided to build an exploration centre, with colourful, tactile activities, including reading and math centres. First, we made a list of what to include in our centre. Next we drew a prototype of the exploration centre. Then we consulted with an actual student with a learning disability to get ideas for our centre. Then we collected tons of "garbage", including cardboard boxes, plastics - bags, buckets, packaging, cups, bottles styrofoam, tins, and other miscellaneous waste. Next, we started building our explorating centre, starting with the bench, reading area and measuring activity station. We have not yet finished our centre, and we don't want to rush it. We will continue working on it beyond the contest date because we want to produce something truly beautiful and useful to be used at our school We are submitting our progress to date.
