We used a powerpoint to look at statistics of food waste in Canada and the world based on information found on www.lovefoodhatewaste.ca Students shared ways in which they reduce food waste at home and at school . We made a list of different ways and wrote them on slips of paper which we then used to play pictionary as a class.
As part of "Water Day" on March 22, we studied water use in Canada as well as ways in which we can conserve water as well as reduce the pollution and contamination. Students made estimates of how many litres of water they use per day using the chart provided. Then students worked through the calculations using the "Water Footprint Calculator" found at www.watercalculator.org. During our debrief it was interesting to see their amazement in the amount of water that they or their family use on a daily basis.
