We began why watching the video provided with this lesson to see what different cities were currently doing to promote better mobility choices and to make different modes of transportation accessible to their citizens. We then brainstormed as a class different modes of transportation and discussed why some modes are better for the environment than others. Finally, the students worked in team to create posters that present different modes of transportation that they feel are better for the environment.
How Big Are Your Carbon Feet?
The students watched the videos that were sent with this lesson to better understand what a carbon footprint is. The students then calculated their carbon footprints, using the website that was provided with the lesson. A class discussion took place and the students brainstormed ways to reduce their carbon footprints. Each student then drew a picture of some of the ways they felt they could personally reduce their carbon footprint and help the environment.
The Phantom of the Classroom
The students watched the video that was provided with this lesson. We then had a class discussion to determine what phantom power is and how we could reduce our phantom energy use. Each student then created a map of the classroom or a map of a room in their home and identified different phantom power sources in that room.
