We made WATCH US GROW grass heads! We planted grass seeds and watched them grow! Each student got their own pot, added soil and watered their pot regularly. Add some sunshine and soon after they were asking if they could “cut their hair”!

One Hour No Power

We tried many things to complete this challenge. We had to wait for bright days to work inside without lights, which took a while. We then decided it was better to just have art and phys-Ed outside. We also have kindie buddies and STEM time, an opportunity for kids to build with lego, connectors and straws, and a variety of other building materials. These materials do not require power.

We tracked the amount of garbage, recycling and compost we used. We tried to reduce waste in our classroom by using clothes to wash our desks instead of paper towel, by using goose paper, and saving construction paper scraps to use again. Using reusable masks, ensuring students have reusable water bottles also help reduce waste.

The Phantom of the Classroom

Students went around the school during a recess to notice what was left on in each classroom. They observed lights, projectors, chromebook cart chargers, photocopies, computers etc. They gave classrooms a letter grade depending on the classes power use when no one was there. Well many classes did well, some still have work to do.

We incorporated some of our other challenges, as well as a recent art project where we used old cereal boxes to create 3D letters to create this video! Kids worked with their families to find examples of electric vehicles for the video! Add in some stop motion animation and it was super fun to create this video!

Students discussed their water consumption in an average day and thought about how to reduce it. Tips like turning off the water when you brush your teeth, wash your hands. Fixing drips and leaks. Having water efficient toilets.
