How Big Are Your Carbon Feet?

Completed

Description

We started by watching this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sglectkM0p4. I then explained what carbon footprint meant and I calculated my own carbon footprint using this website: https://energyiq.canadiangeographic.ca/beyond-the-classroom/survey/. We then completed the "How Big Are Your Carbon Feet" worksheet by writing something that we can do to have a smaller carbon footprint. Since the Green Team only meets at lunch time, the students did not have enough time to calculate their own carbon footprint. However, I sent them the website and they did it at home.

Tips and Tricks

Description

After leaning about energy awareness since March, each studnet had to come up with one thing they can do to reduce the amount of energy they use. Each student created a visual poster that we are going to hang in the school hallway for everyone to see.

Video Challenge

Completed

Description

I introduced the video by showing my class' video from last year as well as some videos that had already been posted to the Classroom Energy Diet Challenge website. Once we watched different videos, they discussed different ideas and came up with the Eco police. Since this video was done by the Green Team and not during class time, students wrote the script on their own time and then practiced it with me during their lunch hour. I helped them distribute roles and corrected any mistakes they had in their script. They filmed the video themselves and edited it using the iMovie app. They now go around the school as the Eco Police teaching other students how to be kinder to our earth! The entire script, video and ideas are from the students!!!
