Electric Panthers

Description

In our class debate we had to discover advantages and disadvantages of our energy source and of other energy sources. The energy sources were nuclear, geothermal, hydro, wind, solar, oil, and coal. Our debate team on oil had a great opening statement, hydro had great firing points, geo-thermal and wind had great rebuttals and coal and nuclear had great closing statements. This was a fun way to learn about energy!

To complete this challenge, we first did some research for ideas for our vehicles. Then when we had our ideas we designed our very own future vehicles. When we finished designing our vehicles we wrote down all of our information. After that we attached them to our poster.

For this challenge we had the privilege to see an electric car. We were explained how it works, the cost of the car, how long it takes to charge it and why it has less of an impact on the earth than fossil fuel powered cars. We also learned about initiatives in our community to increase the number of available electric charging stations.

For Game Time we had to make a board game about saving energy and then have some classmates play the game. The board game we created is based off the game Candy Land.

We grew flowers and learned about photosynthesis. We learned how plants create their own food and what they use to make it.

For ‘One Hour No Power’ we had to work without power. We did our math in the dark and had band in the dark. We also play outside. We didn’t allow the teacher to use her computer.
