We explored different types of energy in Canada, with a focus on green power. Students completed the lesson worksheet then created a slideshow based on their research. Slideshows were presented, prompting discussions about various green energy sources.

Description

We discussed things we use that require energy. Students completed the worksheet provided with the lesson plan. After doing without the item for a day, we discussed how this impacted students. We had further discussion about how to reduce our energy use for longer than one day and why this was important. Students completed a written reflection of their experience.

Description

We discussed food waste, especially in Canada. We visited the suggested websites together then students did some of their own research. Students created trivia questions related to food waste, which I combined into a Kahoot. The class had fun playing the Kahoot and were encouraged to share their learning with family members. I am sharing my assignment and a screen shot of the Kahoot.

Description

We explored resources provided in the lesson plan. Students used 2 different surveys to determine their carbon footprints and we discussed the differences and similarities. Students created an outline, as per "Go Go Green", of their footprint, drew a sketchnote of activities that contribute to their own personal carbon footprint, then created an action plan of three things they could do to reduce their personal carbon footprint. The actions were recorded on the footprint template and displayed in the classroom. A portion of the display is pictured.
