I’ve registered my class for the CEDC – now what?
The challenge begins on February 1, 2021 at noon EST. Come up with an energy-themed class name and motto, and design a class logo that you can upload as your classroom’s picture. Once the challenge opens, you will be able to begin uploading challenge completion proof through your account.

Does the CEDC have an app?
No. With the redesign of the new mobile-friendly website, there is no longer a CEDC app.
I am a homeschool teacher. Can my classroom participate?
Of course! A school is an educational institution located in Canada, which is recognized by the Province or Territory in which it is located. Keep in mind that a classroom needs to have a minimum of three students to participate.
How do I submit proof? What is “proof”?
What is required to be uploaded for each challenge is indicated in the individual lesson plan. This might be photos, worksheets, or pdfs. To submit proof, log into your account, click on a challenge, and click “submit proof” to upload your photos and documents.
I don’t want students appearing in the proof I upload, is that okay?
Absolutely! Student faces and voices are not required to appear in any photos or videos. We also encourage all teachers to blur or black out student names on worksheets.
I can’t see the Submit Proof button to log our completed challenge.
You need to be logged into your teacher account in order to see this button. Only teachers are able to log a completed challenge for their classroom.
I’m trying to log a completed challenge for my classroom but can’t find the challenge in the drop down list.
If you have already completed this specific challenge then you will not be allowed to submit again. A challenge can only be completed once, and thus the challenge can only be logged once through your teacher account.
I’m trying to upload a document or image to submit proof for a challenge, but am having difficulties. What’s the problem?
Check that your file is sized appropriately and is amongst the accepted file types. You can upload up to three pdfs per challenge, up to 20 MB each. Photos should be no larger than 4GB, and only the following file types are accepted: .jpg, .png., .jpeg and .gif. If you need to resize an image, we recommend trying pixlr.com – a free, web-based photo-editing app.
I’m trying to upload some .BMP images as proof of a completed challenge but it won’t work.
Only the following file types are accepted: jpg, .png, .gif, .jpeg
I’ve just submitted proof for a challenge but don’t see it on the website.
All proof is reviewed and approved by Canadian Geographic. Once the proof is approved, it is viewable on the CEDC website.
Can I log in with my Facebook account and access my classrooms?
No, your classrooms are only attached to your account on the contest website, please log in with the email and password.
I have more than one registered classroom but can only ever see one.
You need to select which classroom you want to activate by opening the pop-up box in the navigation bar with the name of your active classroom. Only one classroom can be active at one time.
I forgot my password. How can I reset it?
Please click on the “Forgot your password” link on the login pop-up. When prompted, enter the email address you used to register for the contest. You will receive an email with a link to change your password. Once your password has been changed, you will be automatically logged into your account.
I can’t upload my video. What do I do?
There are a number of things that could cause an issue with a video upload. First, make sure that your source video is in the correct format and is not too large. Files must be uploaded as .mov, .avi, .m4v, or .mp4, and can not be larger than 75 MB. Second, check to make sure that your local network’s firewall is not blocking your access to the website or a component of the website. Your IT department will be able to assist you with this. Third, you may be experiencing an issue with the browser you are using. Supported browsers are Chrome 86+, Firefox 82+, Safari 13.1+, and Edge 86+, although individual instances of browsers may have installed plugins that can cause localized issues with the website. If you are using a supported browser and still are having issues, please try with a different supported browser before requesting support assistance.
If you are still having difficulties, please contact the Classroom Energy Diet Challenge administrator and include the url of the page you are having difficulty with, a description of the issue, a copy of the file you are trying to upload and, if possible, a screenshot of the page with any error messages that are displayed.
I uploaded my video but I can’t see it online. What happened?
All videos will be visible online as of April 1, 2021, noon EST.
I uploaded my video and now I want to change it. Can I do this?
Once you have submitted your video, you are not able to revise it. Please make sure that you upload the final version of your video. If this poses a problem, please contact your Classroom Energy Diet Challenge administrator.
I would like to vote for a video. How do I do this?
The voting period opens April 1, 2021, noon EST. Voting can only be completed once you’ve viewed a video from start to finish. At that time a vote button will appear. Please click on the vote button to register a vote. Viewers can cast one vote per device (e.g., phone, computer, tablet, etc.) per video per day.
Can I use copyrighted material in my video?
No. The content of Classroom Videos must be original, must not contain copyrighted material, and must not be defamatory, offensive, vulgar, or illegal. Classroom videos must be written, produced and recorded solely by the members of the Classroom submitting the video. Classroom videos may not include images, music, lyrics, or other licensed images or audio without the creator’s consent and may not include video content that has been previously published or is pending publication.
